Can I use my Garmin Car GPS system while hiking?

It is possible,, take out the Gps, and see if their is a battery holder,, if so,, then yes,
as some models, have a battery that charges in the window charger,, and you can take it with
you.
however some models have this window adaptor, but no battery, you take it with you, so
that a Thief will not steal it.

if it does have a re-chargeable battery,, i would make sure i go the right one for it,, and
buy some extra's, and charge them,,
even though your Hike, may be only for a day,,, take enough that would last for 4 days,
that is a rule i use, when hiking,, been on some day hikes,,, just to come across
bad weather or some one hurt,, and had to stay with them,, i take 4 day supply,
of food, and every thing i may need, to spend a night or two, ,,Yes you can. In fact some Garmin models have a "walk mode" that you can switch to. Other have a function where you can take it with you and you can find your car when you want to return. Check your unit to see if it has any of these features.
